Coming off a highly successful 2023 Juneteenth – A Road to Economic Freedom event which boasted over 8,000 in attendance, national recording artists, state and local dignitaries, 100 plus vendors, the Miss Juneteenth Pageant and performances by local talent and artists, we are happy to announce that we are doing it again!! We are excited about another opportunity to bring this event to the community again in 2024!
WHAT IS JUNETEENTH?
In 2022, President Joe Biden signed a bill commemorating Juneteenth as a federal holiday. The date is significant in American History and celebrates June 19th, 1865 which was 2.5 years after Abraham Lincoln proclaimed all slaves free. Despite declaring Juneteenth as a federal holiday, Black Americans continue to face a plethora of systemic challenges, such as the racial wealth and education gap, disproportionate incarceration, and persistent health disparities, all while contributing 1 trillion a year as consumers to the American economy.

Celebrate Juneteenth with us on June 19th, 2024 from 11am-5pm at Stewart Heights Park (5715 Reginald Gutierrez Ln, Tacoma) This is a Free Event.
The Juneteenth Celebration will host over 100 vendors from trade associations, local businesses, nonprofits, and finance. Our goal is to create an opportunity for economic growth and set a path for financial stability within the BIPOC community, and of course celebrate. The festival will be held on June 19th from 11am-5pm at Stewart Heights Park in Tacoma.

For over 15 years Building Youth Through Music/ WayOut Kids has brought amazing family friendly events to the South Puget Sound. We are excited to announce that we were awarded a contract with Tacoma Creates a program created by the City of Tacoma to host Juneteenth – A Road to economic freedom 2023 on the Eastside of Tacoma.
Wayout Kids newest project is our children’s animated series “Rodney Raccoon.” It’s all about STEAM D (Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts, Math and Discovery) and Rodney Raccoon and his crew are always up for the challenge. But the Missions and adventures they go on in the Sky Dome Science Museum are more than just fun, they might just save an animal or the planet! For the past 20 years we have hosted community block parties and holiday giveaways providing the less fortunate with food and gifts throughout the holiday season. WayOut Kids Rodney Goes Green project was recognized by Discovery Education and globally distributed to 3 million educators and 30 million students in over 50 different countries.
